Simon Palmer and Africat

Simon Palmer has visited Willfield four times now which is testament to his being one of our most popular speakers. As well as being a fantastic photographer and a caring individual he is always an educational, engaging and entertaining speaker.

On his most recent visit he took us back to a subject close to his heart which is his voluntary work with Africat. Photographing cheetahs in particular he visits Africat’s reserve in Namibia using his own money and leaving behind his wife and young son to help out. Not only taking the exciting wildlife shots he is renowned for, he also documents the treatment given in protection of these magnificent creatures.

Following his talk the club’s ‘Christmas card’ donations were voted to be given to Africat and £115 was soon winging its way to Africa. This is testament both to Simon and Africat’s wonderful work to help out yet another endangered species.

The amazing pictures on the page were taken by and kindly donated by kind permission of Simon himself. He is also working on a photography book that will be sold to raise more much needed funds for Africat and I will share details of this when it becomes available.
