Every month at Willfield Camera Club each member has the opportunity to submit two of their best shots to ‘Photo of the Month’ anonymously. All images are uploaded to a flickr page where members can view them and there is also a slideshow every month at the club. Each member votes for their top 5 images and the overall top 5 for each month are displayed in the POTM gallery.
At the end of the year, the top 2 from each month were gathered and members voted for their overall top 5 of the year and I’m pleased to share the results below.
I would like to thank Phil Critchlow for his hard work every month receiving the images, stripping them of exif data, uploading them to flickr and then gathering the votes and working out the results. It’s a big job and we’re all very grateful.
POTY 2013 Winner
Abstract by David Bayliss
It took David about 500 attempts to get this shot. He found a nice piece of old wood and took the image with a static drill bit. He also used an incense stick to get the smoke behind it, creating a brilliant effect.
POTY 2013 2nd Place
Boats at St Ives by Liz Glover
Liz took this photo earlier this year at St Ives just after the tide went out. This image is also proof that you don’t need fancy cameras and gadgets to take a great photo as this one was taken on a compact camera.
POTY 2013 3rd Place
Inside the Rundetaarn by Claire Wade
I took this photo last winter, it is inside an old tower in Copenhagen, for more information on it, please click here. The hardest point was waiting for a quiet moment without any other tourists! Also, it was rather dark in there, so I had to use a high ISO but also be careful not to over expose the windows.
POTY 2013 Joint 4th Place
Waterfall at Lumsdale by Phil Critchlow
This was taken early morning before the light was good at one of the many waterfalls at Lumsdale, Derbyshire. The camera settings were 1/6s and f16 . Filters were also used in post processing.
POTY 2013 Joint 4th Place
Abstract by Stephen Davis
This is actually two photos taken in the back garden blended together in photoshop. The first is the model’s face, and the second has her hands over her face. Then a teardrop was added along with coloured eyes.
