As many of you are aware, we are planning a Sunday trip to Freshfields Donkey village and Eyam on Sunday 28th July. The donkey village opens at 11am and we plan to meet in the (free) carpark at 10.45am. It costs just £3.50 to get in and you are able to wander freely amongst the friendly donkeys. It is a charity venue for rescued donkeys and many of them are on special diets, so if you want to bring carrots, you do need to give them to a member of staff.
Glyn and I visited a few years ago and as you can see from the photograph, the donkeys are generally quite small, but very cute. Bring on the “Aaaaaahhhhhhs!!”.
After we are ‘donkeyed out’ we will go to Eyam, which is about 9 miles away. This is known as the Plague Village, but is a lot more cheerful than it sounds! There is a lot to photograph there, old houses, a lovely old churchyard (I’m pretty sure it’s no photography in the actual church) and historical buildings. There are also some stocks in the village, if we can get any ‘volunteers’ to sit in them for a photo op!
Eyam also has some cafes and pubs if anyone would like to go for lunch or a drink afterwards.
